About the Audubon Center
The Audubon Center of the North Woods is a private, non-profit residential environmental learning center (RELC), a wildlife rehabilitation facility, and conference & retreat center nestled on the shores of Grindstone Lake near Sandstone, Minn., in east-central Minnesota. The diverse 535-acre sanctuary includes a variety of habitats, including old-growth red and white pines, hardwood forests, restored wetlands and prairies. It features a mixture of historic as well as newly constructed facilities and a wide range of learning environments (including a wildlife barn, yurt, log cabin, formal science classroom, and of course, the great outdoors).

Climate
Minnesota is typical of a continental climate. Minnesota’s North Woods experiences the widest variety of weather in the United States. Each of the four seasons has its own distinct characteristics. Although summers are generally hot and humid, it is normal to experience rain showers, thunderstorms and cool nights. Summer temperatures average 85 F but can get down to 55 F, so keep that in mind while packing!
