At Waldsee, snacks are provided throughout the day. Our chefs take pride in the food they create, making every healthy and delicious bite taste as typically German as you would find in any restaurant or home in Germany. The menus, snacks, and mealtime customs reflect the social as well as nutritional values of Germans.
Here's a recipe you can try at home!
German Black Forest Cake
Impress your guests with this world-renowned German confection.
Serves 10
2 cups - Canned Red Tart Pitted Cherries
6 Tbsp - Unsalted Butter at room temperature
1 cup - Sugar
2 count - Egg Yolks
¼ lbs - Semi-Sweet Chocolate - grated
3 Tbsp - Flour
1 Tbsp - Baking powder
4 count - Egg whites
Drain the cherries for at least 4 hours. You need to get as much liquid out of them as you can. Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the egg yolks and beat until it looks pale and fluffy. Stir in the grated chocolate. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. In a third bowl, beat the egg whites until they form soft peaks. Fold the chocolate mixture into the flour mixture and then fold in the egg whites until no lumps remain. Pour the batter into a greased 8" round cake pan. Cover the top of the cake with the cherries. Bake at 300° F for 40-45 minutes, rotating pans after 25 minutes. Remove it from the oven and let it cool.
