The online summer staff application is part of Concordia College's employment web site. It has some sections and aspects that can be confusing and that are not easy to use. Please open and refer to these Guidelines for applying. We suggest that you look at this guideline document, and that you minimize it and keep it open while you are filling out the application.

Please apply for ONLY ONE position per language, unless you are applying for both a food service and a counseling/teaching position; then apply for both. On the application itself, indicate which positions interest you. If you are interested in two languages, apply for a position in EACH language.

Examples:

  • I would like to be a counselor or a business manager at the Chinese Language Village: Apply for Chinese counselor or Chinese business manager, not both.
  • I would like to be an assistant cook or a counselor at Finnish: Apply for BOTH positions.
  • I would like to work at the Arabic and French Language Villages: Apply for a position at both, an Arabic position and a French position.

Note: At the point in the application where you are asked if you want to attach documents, none are required, unless you are applying for a Norwegian position; please refer to the "guidelines" above.

Staff applications for summer positions are processed on a rolling basis. Applications are reviewed by the Village dean(s) and/or program managers, as they make the hiring decisions.

Following are status notification dates:

Priority deadline: Youth Leadership Interns whose applications (with references) are received by January 1 will hear of status by February 15. (Peer Interns are always returning staff, so the other deadlines are applicable.)

Priority deadline: Returning staff whose applications are received by January 15 will hear of their status by March 1.

All applicants whose applications and references are received by February 15 will hear of their status by April 1.

All applicants whose applications and references are received by March 15 will hear of their status by May 1.

We do accept applications after March 15! There is not a specific date by which applicants who apply after March 15 will hear of their status, as notification depends on Village or program needs.

2. Twin Cities Day Camps

See additional information on the "Day Camps (Twin Cities)" tab.

Twin cities Day Camp staff are not housed, so applicants should live in or have a place to stay in the St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota area.

Volunteers in a Concordia Language Villages Summer Program

The following information about volunteering is located on the "staff applications" page because a volunteer is selected and accepted using the same rigorous standards as summer staff.

A volunteer is a person who performs hours of service to the Village or Villages without any compensation. Depending on circumstances of the volunteer, housing or meals or both may be provided, for the convenience of Concordia Language Villages.

A volunteer contributes to the work flow of the Village. A volunteer might

  • provide manual labor
  • offer expertise through cultural education
  • take part in daily life in the Village, interacting with villagers and employees.

Generally, a volunteer has a unique contribution to make in some area of expertise.

A volunteer does not replace a regular summer employee.

The volunteer applicant completes an online application, which is similar in content to a summer staff application. As part of the online application process, the applying volunteer provides contact information for two reference writers.

Former staff members who are in good standing complete the "Volunteer-Former Staff" application. All other would-be volunteers complete the "Volunteer" application. In the list of available staff and volunteer positions, the language precedes the word "volunteer," for example, "French Volunteer" or "Norwegian Volunteer-Former Staff." (In the list, use the arrow at the top to alphabetize.)

For summer employees, we created a set of guidelines to filling out the application. Though directed at applicants for employment, the document may be helpful to volunteer applicants. To open the document and then minimize it for reference while applying, click here.

To complete a volunteer application, click here. Then, you must click on "Concordia Language Village Summer Program." Your application has not been submitted until you receive a confirmation number.
