Village First Aider
Our J-1 Visa does not authorize us to hire kitchen or nursing personnel from outside the United States.
Qualifications
• Must be at least 20 years of age
• CPR_(professional level) certificate
• Advanced first aid credential (minimum training = 16 hours); wilderness first aid preferred
• Work history shows evidence of attention to detail, reliability, dependability, and ability to hold confidential information in confidence
• Able to speak a world language (minimal competence = advanced beginner)
• Physically able to deliver EMS services in an outdoor setting in various terrains and all weather conditions
• Work history demonstrates teamwork abilities and critical thinking skills
•Capable of completing the Language Villages training program for this position: medication management course, health services policy course, demonstration of competent critical thinking and delivery of care in emergent situations
Responsibilities – under the supervision of the Village nurse, the Village first aider
• Assists with opening day’s screening process
• May accompany villagers to physician appointments
• Responds to Village emergencies as a member of the Village EMS team
• Helps supervise and care for people admitted to the Health Center for care
• Helps distribute daily medications to villagers and staff
• Provides CPR and First Aid coverage during credit villagers’ interim weekend
• Provides direct care to staff within the scope of credential held
• Complies with policies in Language Villages’ Healthcare Manual
• Works outside the Heath Center to maintain established safety programs such as monitoring and filling first aid kits, getting water to
sports areas, and preparing pre-meal hand washing station(s)
• Helps provide CPR/FA coverage when nurse is away from the Village
• Functions as a member of the Village’s health services team within scope of credential
Note: This position may be fulltime (health services, supervised by Village nurse) or a joint-appointment with both health services and counselor duties. If a joint appointment, individual reports to the Dean in matters pertinent to counseling and to the Village nurse in matters pertinent to health services. This position typically lives with villagers in a cabin setting and requires a minimum of advanced beginner skill in the target language
Compensation
$500 - $600 for two week period, room and board
