Enjoy an exciting week at Salolampi with the whole family!
The week is designed for first-time villagers, age 4-10, and their
parents and/or grandparents, but all ages are welcome!
Activities
Families are invited to participate in authentic Salolampi activities
that reflect life in Finland and provide opportunities to learn and
use the Finnish language. Some of the group activities (language
groups, stories, games, crafts, meals, hikes and more) are offered
just for children, some just for adults, and some for everyone.
Play a Finnish board game or enjoy the sunshine outside playing kyykkä
(skittles) or pesäpallo (Finnish-style
baseball). Try kankaankudonta (loom weaving) or try your
hand at tuohenpunonta (birchbark crafts). And at the end of the
day, take a refreshing swim after a nice, hot sauna!
Food
Learning continues during mealtimes, featuring typical Finnish
cuisine like pannukakku (pancakes) or Karjalan piirakat (Karelian
pastries). Fresh-baked breads and pastries and homemade entrees and
desserts are a highlight of the week!
Housing
Housing will be at Salolampi by family groups in cabins with
bathrooms. Two or three families will be housed in each cabin.
There is also limited single-family housing in the main building, with
separate bathrooms. A few RV hookups provide the possibility of
bringing your own housing, by advance arrangement. With RV's,
you must bring your own bedding and towels.
