The study of Arabic language and culture in the U.S. is on the rise as students realize the economic and political impact of this region of the world. Universities offering Arabic find that classes are filling quickly and sometimes even have waiting lists.

In this article, Christine Schulze, Executive Director and CEO of Concordia Language Villages, talks about the addition of an Arabic Language Village which provides students between the ages of 8 and 18 the unique opportunity to learn Arabic in an immersion setting within the United States.

California and other states are beginning to expand their Arabic-study curriculum. This article explores Arabic as the "fastest-growing spoken language of study at U.S. colleges and universities," with a 92.3 percent increase in students studying this language between 1998 and 2002.
