Music education in Finland is phenomenally successful in producing young artists, as well as world-renowned soloists, directors, and composers.

Now, Concordia Language Villages will offer a focused music education program for young people this summer: Soiva Camp at Salolampi, a music camp hosted in northern Minnesota.

Soiva Camp at Salolampi is a partnership between Concordia Language Villages, the Association of Finnish Music Schools, the Salolampi Foundation, Concordia College, Bemidji State University and the Finlandia Foundation. This pilot program is limited to 25 students in advanced study of flute, piano, improvisation or composition and will be held June 15-21. Participants must have a minimum of two years private instruction in piano or flute.

Instruction will be by three teachers from Finland and three from the United States.  Participants will live at Salolampi and receive their instruction at the music department of Bemidji State University.

Soiva participants will have breakfast and dinner at Salolampi Finnish Language Village.  A box lunch will be provided at the instruction site at Bemidji State University, which has 20 practice rooms with pianos.  The students will be bussed back to Salolampi for dinner and activities, including the options of swimming and sauna.  Students do not need to be of Finnish heritage to attend Soiva.
