Dean

Tove Dahl
Tove Dahl is dean of Skogfjorden, the Norwegian Language Village.Dahl has been on staff for 27 years and was a villager for four years. Dahl is fluent in Norwegian. She has also studied Russian, French, Spanish and Dutch.

Dahl earned her bachelor’s degree in English at Augsburg College, Minneapolis. She completed her doctorate in educational psychology at the University of Texas-Austin. Dahl studied music at the Svanvik Folkehøgskole, Svanvik, Norway, and developed a spinning and weaving curriculum for Skogfjorden while at the Statens Lærerhøgskole i Forming in Oslo. While working on the curriculum, she also studied the literature of Norwegian immigrants in the US at the University of Oslo.

Dahl is associate professor of psychology at the University of Tromsø, Norway, the world’s northernmost university. She also sits on the board of Norway's Centre for Peace Studies.

Chelsey Johnson
Chelsey Leikny Johnson is the dean of the Norwegian Credit Abroad program. Chelsey earned a B.A. in English and creative writing from Oberlin College and an M.F.A. in fiction from the University of Iowa, and recently completed a Stegner fellowship at Stanford University. This spring Chelsey returns to Lincoln High School in Portland, Oregon as a writer-in-residence, a position that she also held in the spring of 2005. She will also teach a fiction writing workshop at Stanford.

Chelsey has been a staff member at Concordia Language Villages for eight years. Chelsey’s connection with Concordia Language Villages started as a villager at Skogfjorden and Sjölunden, the Norwegian and Swedish Language Villages. She also attended Camp Norway in Sandana, Norway. She returned to Norway to study in the Oslo Year Program, and continues to spend time in Norway annually. She is fluent in Norwegian.
