Summer Youth Program

Exploring Norwegian | Summer Youth Program | Location | Dean | Scholarship Opportunities | Village Employment | Village Productions | Skogfjorden Schedule

Come experience this interesting country through all your senses! Actively take on the roles of the people and characters from Norse mythology: the waves of Norwegian immigrants to the New Land, the indigenous Sámi people, artists, musicians, environmentalists and others who have shaped Norway and its place in the world. Learn Norwegian all at the same time! Be ready to start your day as a Viking, a Nobel Peace Prize candidate, or a character carrying out the wacky capers of The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder. In between, play fotball (soccer), do treskjæring (woodcarving), play the neighborhood game of rød og blå spillet (the red and blue game), syng (sing), or listen to the latest hits by Norwegian artists like Röyksopp, World Idol Kurt Nilsen, and the village favorite De Lillos.

2006 marks the 100th birthday of Henrik Ibsen, a famous Norwegian playwright! Click here to learn more about Ibsen and see what you will be doing at Skogfjorden this summer to celebrate.

Prepare for your own future trip to Norway as a tourist, exchange student or resident. Eat Norwegian favorites like kjøttboller (meatballs), smørbrød (open-faced sandwiches), tomatsuppe med macaroni (Norwegian-style tomato soup), bløtkake (cream cake) or sjokoladepudding med vaniljesaus (chocolate pudding with vanilla sauce). During breaks, shop in our stores with your kroner where you can buy standards like Melkesjokolade (milk chocolate) and Seigmenn (the gumdrop-like men of Norway).

Do this all in our setting where Norway’s principles of peacemaking are a natural part of everyday life. The bottom line in our Village is respekt (respect), and we strive to ensure that everything we do is grounded in a strong sense of trivsel (enjoyment), trygghet (safety) and tilhørighet (belonging). Join us in exploring the language and culture of Norway – a little country on the top of the globe with a long and colorful history just waiting to be discovered by you!
