The new dean of Mar e Floresta is Mira Valéria Olson, a 5-year villager and 5-year staff member at the Spanish Language Village where she worked as a counselor, credit teacher, and business manager. She also served as a Village liaison to embassies representing Spanish-speaking countries. She earned her B.A. at Mount Holyoke College, with majors in economics and Latin American studies. As a college student, she studied a year in Argentina at the Universidad Blas Pascal.
Mira spent 2006 on a Fulbright Grant in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, studying at Pontifícia Universidade Católica, and also teaching English in a school in a local favela, or shantytown. Prior to her time in Brazil, she completed an internship at the US Department of State, Office of Trade Policy Programs-Bilateral Trade Affairs Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs.
Mira lives in Washington, D.C., where she has a consulting position at the World Bank. She is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and has studied French.
