Exploring Portuguese | Summer Youth Program | Dean | Learn something | Village Employment
In summer 2008, Concordia Language Villages will usher its first group of villagers through customs and the process of selecting a new Portuguese name, marking the official opening of Mar e Floresta, the Portuguese Language Village. Portuguese is the 15th language offered through the Language Villages’ immersion programs.
Located at a lakeside summer camp in northern Minnesota, Mar e Floresta’s two-week programs will offer villagers a residential immersion experience. With a blend of language and cultural experiences, from meals inspired by the sea to the African-influenced sport of capoiera practiced widely in Brazil, participants and multi-national staff live together to create a unique Portuguese-speaking opportunity for beginners or native speakers. Staff and curriculum will represent and incorporate Lusophone culture from around the Portuguese-speaking world.
A: Mar e Floresta means “Sea and woods.” The name is meant to symbolize the strong tie that many Portuguese speaking cultures have with sailing and the sea.
A: It is a language immersion program that introduces children, students and parents to Portuguese speaking cultures like those from Portugal, Brazil, Angola and Mozambique. Mar e Floresta is one of the 15 languages offered by the Concordia Language Villages, a program of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., U.S.A.
A: Come as you are! Mar e Floresta and the Concordia Language Villages community will meet you where you are at, whether you are an advanced speaker or just beginning the adventure of learning a new language.
A: Our 15th Village will be opening at Camp Patmos near Hackensack, Minn.
A: Sessions will begin in summer 2008 (July 28 - August 23)
