Al-Wāḥa Programs
(St. Paul, MN--February 10, 2006) Concordia Language Villages Executive Director, Christine
Schulze, and a national panel of Arabic scholars and education leaders announced today that
Congress has approved the appropriation of $250,000 for Concordia Language Villages’ new Arabic
Language Village in the FY-2006 State Department Appropriation bill. The grant boosts the
organizations plans to launch its first-ever immersion education program in Arabic language and
culture in July, 2006. The appropriation will be used to underwrite the creation of the
curriculum and ensure that the program is culturally supported.

Concordia Language Villages' mission is to prepare young people for responsible citizenship
in our global community. In the past few years, after 9/11 and the U.S. involvement in Iraq, it
has become abundantly clear that learning more about the Arabic language and culture is a
global imperative.
