Celebrations around the world are recognizing 2007 as the Year of Russian Language! Some countries represented at the Concordia Language Villages are also taking part in honoring and promoting this widely spoken language.
Austria is featuring the “days of Russian children’s books.” An international linguistic exhibition in France featured Russia as the guest of honor and provided a direct link with Russian cosmonauts at the International Space Station. The Russian Foreign Center is expanding its network of Russian language courses this year; the most interest in Russian is registered among the French and the Egyptians. In 2006, Japan held the Festival of Russian Culture, celebrating the history of Russian-Japanese diplomatic relations. A Russian-sponsored Internet search competition has expanded to Norway; Russian language competitions will also be carried out around the world in conjunction with the Year of Russian Language.
