Summer Youth Program

Exploring Russian | Summer Youth Program | Location | Dean | Scholarship Opportunities | Village Employment | Village Productions | Building Lesnoe Ozero | Lesnoe Ozero Schedule

Beginning through advanced speakers are welcome to join our native Russian and expert speakers as we explore the rich cultural heritage, music, literature, history and language of Russia.

Activities

Have you ever tried playing the balalaika? It's a Russian instrument similar to a mandolin. Ever sat in a steaming banya (sauna) and then jumped straight into the lake? You might try Ukrainian egg decorating, join our Russian choir, play shakhmaty (chess) or futbol (soccer), swim, canoe or fish.

If it's your birthday while you're at Lesnoe Ozero, you'll get your ears pulled, just like a traditional birthday party in Russia!

Food

The authentic Russian cuisine includes borshch (beet soup), blini,  homemade black bread, shchi (cabbage soup), or pel’meni (Siberian dumplings).

You can use your rubles to shop at the Village store. You’ll have many opportunities to practice your Russian in small language-learning groups, at meals, evening programs, song sessions and through a variety of culturally authentic activities. Special attention is given to the exciting changes unfolding for Russian speakers across the Eurasian continent.
