About Study Abroad Programs | Application Process | Dean | Program Safety

The program in Sweden starts in the capital city of Norway, Oslo. Students from both the Swedish and Norwegian groups tour museums, enjoy local restaurants and learn about the history and culture of the two countries.

The main portion of the program for the Swedish group takes place in the resort town of Trosa, located on the Eastern coast of Sweden, 60 miles from Stockholm. The two-week intensive study is hosted by Stensund Folk High School. The school is beautifully situated in a Swedish Manor House on its own private beach, overlooking the Baltic archipelago.

Days are filled with language, conversation and Scandinavian cultural classes. Between classes and academic-oriented activities, the group has the chance to explore Trosa. There are numerous recreational opportunities such as biking, swimming, canoeing, and sailing. There is also a gym and several saunas, including one right on the beach.

After completing the first week of intensive language study at Stensund, the group relaxes with a weekend excursion along the archipelago.

One of the highlights of the program is a week-long stay with a Swedish host family. During this week participants are able to apply their Swedish language and culture skills while experiencing everyday life with their families.

At the end of the host family stay, the group travels back to Stockholm. After a few days of exploring the city, the group departs for the United States.
