Construction on the Biohaus at Waldsee is in
full swing! The Biohaus is a Passivhaus, meaning
that it will consume 85% LESS energy than an average house built
in Minnesota. Some of the highlights of the Biohaus
include an extensive green roof, a solar-thermal water heating
system, and super-efficient vacuum insulation.
Visit our Web site
to learn more about the Biohaus and read the Tagebuch (journal) that our lead
environmentalist Eddie has been keeping. You can also check out
our webcams to watch the progress of the
building.
Winter Olympics – in
Waldsee!
Sport im
Schnee in Torino – ja! Aber auch in
Waldsee!!Family program
participants enjoyed a fabulous long weekend of Deutsch und
Spaß February 17 – 21 at
Familienfest. Parents and kids learned about die
Alpen and enjoyed the challenge of various Olympic
events. Schilaufen (skiing), Schlittenziehen
(sled pulling) and even Eisstockschiessen (curling)
were some of the various Veranstaltungen we
enjoyed.
Of course
there was plenty of indoor fun as well.
Scherenschnitte (silhouette cutting) and Backen
(baking) were two favorites. If you missed it this year,
you can join us next February for Familienfest. Or if that
is just too long to wait – come this summer June 12 - 17
or August 14 - 19 for a Familienwoche! Bring die ganze Familie
mit!
Waldsee
held its first t-shirt design contest this winter for our summer
2006 t-shirts. Cheyenne Bradley of Appleton, Wisc., won
the scholarship prize for this year with her design featuring
two Waldsee villagers having a great time at
Waldsee. Her design shows how much Spass and
Sprache we all experience each session.
We are looking forward to seeing
Cheyenne at Waldsee this summer and want to thank
everyone who entered the contest. Look for her design on
t-shirts at Waldsee this summer!
Komm mit nach Waldsee!
Watch the new Waldsee video Komm mit nach
Waldsee! This video was produced last summer
by Waldsee villagers working with our long-time staff
member Gustav, who divides time between working at
Waldsee and acting in Hollywood. The video provides an
overview of a typical day in Waldsee.
