WALDSEE SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAMS

NEU! Four Week German Immersion for Middle Schoolers!

Waldsee Radio DJs - Live on the air!
Eager to boost enrollment for your high school German classes? Let’s work together to excite kids in middle school about German, so that when they get to high school they want to sign up to learn with you! Starting this summer, Waldsee is offering a four week immersion language program for kids in grades 6-8. The same fun and excitement of Waldsee’s core program awaits, but with more depth of experience and important preparation for earning high school credit. Encourage parents and siblings to join us at Waldsee for a four week adventure in German language and culture – they’ll return home ready to learn more with you! Click here for more information.

WALDSEE ABROAD

$2500 Scholarships available for Waldsee Credit Abroad!

The Max Kade Foundation is generously sponsoring several $2500 scholarships for students to help defray the costs.  Waldsee Abroad is an excellent opportunity for students who would like to go to Germany this summer, but whose school district does not offer such a program.   In order to be eligible for the scholarships, students must apply by March 15, 2007. In order to be eligible to participate, students must be between the ages of 15 and 18, have had a minimum of two years of German, have an interest in traveling, studying, and living with a host family in our sister city Bad Waldsee. Click here for further information and here for scholarship application materials.

WALDSEE SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAMS

Two-Week and Four-Week German Programs

At Waldsee, the whole village is our "classroom"
Waldsee offers a unique opportunity for students to keep up their German over the summer. Our core two-week program energizes students and returns them to your class room ready to go for another year.  Our four-week high school credit program offers students the opportunity to earn a full year's credit in German. Many of our credit students report that the program solidified what they had been learning during the year and many were able to skip ahead a year to take German 5 or 6.  This summer we are also offering two unique adventure credit programs. Students can earn credit for medieval adventures in the magical Märchenwald (forest of legends) or world-class environmental immersion experiences with the Grüne Welle nature quest. Students with at least three years of German and are in high school can consider earning college credit by exploring modern German perspectives on the world. At Waldsee, students learn German by doing German – while making friends from all over the world.

Das Waldsee BioHaus

Planting the Extensive Green Roof

Das BioHaus, Waldsee’s newest residence, is a one-of-a-kind Wunderland of discovery. The whole experience is unvergesslich! – unforgettable!  "Das BioHaus is a transformational experience,” say Waldsee Deans Berndt und Karl. “Kids eat, sleep, play, clean and learn in the most modern new residence you can imagine. This is modern Europe – and this is the right way to experience German language and German culture.”

The BioHaus was designed just for kids. It is fun, it is comfortable, it is interactive, it is fast-paced – and it uses 85% less energy than a comparable American building. There’s simply nothing like it on either side of the Atlantic. Explore the Earth Tube. Bake pizza in your home-made solar oven. Take the pulse of the building. What size is your ecological footprint? Why was the wood of a BioHaus window frame harvested during a full moon? Get up on the roof – literally! Our grünes Dach – green roof -- is an awesome opportunity for villagers to get down and dirty with mother nature, exploring earth-friendly technology and cutting-edge architecture – alles auf Deutsch, natürlich!  Das Waldsee BioHaus -- America's lowest energy building in America's highest energy German program! Alles übercool, Mann.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS

Erleben Sie mit Ihren Schülern ein Waldseewochende mit!

Entdecke deine Sinne beim Waldsee Sinnespfad!

GUTE IDEE!
Cool Ideas for the German Classroom

Namensschilder aus Waldsee

Have you ever wanted to replicate in your classroom some of the great language experiences from the Waldsee program, but weren’t sure how? A new book, Gute Idee! will soon be available to help you do just that. This book is based on the Concordia Language Villages language learning principles and includes many best practices directly from the Waldsee program. Here are some examples of the units you will be able to use: Sprachmeister, Herkunft und deine Familie, Bist du ein Struwwelpeter? Gesundheit und Wellness, Auf dem Sinnespfad, Podcasting und Klassenradio, and many more. Gute Idee will join TPRS Storytelling and the Songs of Waldsee and Waldsee Lieder and accompanying CDS -- all available through the AATG store -- as a resource for teachers everywhere. Waldsee and Concordia Language Villages want to help you do what you do best: TEACH and, by excellent teaching, create excitement for foreign language learning. Deutsch ist COOL! Natürlich!
