Question: In which city will
you learn about Germany’s most nefarious pirate, Klaus
Störtebeker, find more canal-crossing bridges than Amsterdam and
Venice combined, and encounter more Hamburger than
anywhere else in the world?
Answer: Located inland from
the Nordsee (North Sea) at the junction of the Rivers
Elbe, Alster and Bille, Hamburg is actually Germany’s largest
port city. It will also be a new stop on the Concordia Language
Villages
2008 German Credit Abroad itinerary.
History, architecture and the
impressive shipping industry contribute to the appeal of the
metropolis whose citizens are called Hamburger. It’s
also a fun place to learn about the pirate legends of the
Nordsee. So, unless you’re a real Landratte, you
might want to brush up on your
pirate
vocabulary auf Deutsch before embarking on this
German-speaking adventure. Mark June 25-July 23, 2008 on your
calendars and practice this sailor send off: “Eine gute
Heimkehr und immer eine Handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel!" |

We are proud to introduce two innovative
books that "bottle" Waldsee's immersion techniques for
German teachers to uncork and adapt in their own classrooms.
The first, entitled TPRS Storytelling
and the Songs of Waldsee, is by veteran Waldsee
staff member Bernie Schlafke, or Bernhard, who teaches German
in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. The book combines the innovative TPRS
technique of teaching with cool German songs we learn at
Waldsee. It comes with a CD of the songs as well. The book
and CD are available through AATG (American Association of
Teachers of German)
and through
Concordia Language Villages.
The second book, entitled Natur! Bringing
Environmental Learning into the German Language Classroom,
is by Edwin and Laura Dehler-Seter. This book is chock full of
great units combining the joy and love of nature with German
language and culture to invigorate German classroom learning. It
will also be available in January through AATG and Concordia Language Villages.
Both books were presented in mid-November at
the annual meeting of the AATG and the American Council on the
Teaching of Foreign Language. |
